SmartMarket Report: Construction Industry Workforce Shortages (2012)

Posted by Ayreen Calimquim - On May 21, 2012 (EST)

The new Smart Market Report, Construction Industry Workforce Shortages reveals the current status and future expectations around the availability of a trained skilled workforce in the construction industry.

It identifies challenges the industry faces in finding skilled workers, the regions and trades in which shortages are expected and the training needed to fill gaps. According to the study, 69% of AEC firms expect workforce shortages in the next 3 years and 45% of GCs think there will be workforce shortages in the trades.

Green jobs and their particular demands are a primary focus as the research examines the impact of green on the construction marketplace, defines green jobs specifically for the construction industry and determines skill set gaps for green jobs now and in the future.

In addition, it examines the value, by profession, that the industry places on certification and continuing education.
